 | the BAND
Ben Andrews has played the guitar since the age of nine beginning a career in music that includes perform, song-writing, and production. As a developing instrumentalist, he worked with numerous rock, blues and original music bands in the Louisville, Kentucky area then moved to Boston MA to study at the Berklee College of Music ultimately receiving a B.A. in Film Scoring. During this time Ben fell in love with two different french women. That Christmas, Mr. Andrews received a Django Reinhardt record from his mother. That record was a real ear opener and, while the french women are long gone, the music of D'jango is still going strong. While at Berklee, he began performing D'jango Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli's music under the name Swing 39. Mr. Andrews reformed the group with bassist John Thornberry after returning to Louisville from Boston in 1992.
Besides his passion for the music of D'jango, Mr. Andrews is dedicated singer and songwriter. He has performed his own compositions in a number of bands, most recently The Barbary Merchants.
Ben is also an experienced recording engineer. He was founder of Ramcat Sound Productions, a Louisville area recording studio responsible for recording many of the well known regional music groups all throughout the 1990s. Since 2002, when Ramcat ceased operations, he has been recording and producing local bands under the Ben Andrews Recording name in a studio in the Highlands neighborhood.
